France international Ibrahima Konate is reportedly in the final stages of negotiations to join Real Madrid on a free transfer. According to the Daily Telegraph, the 27-year-old defender is nearing an agreement to move to the Santiago Bernabeu once his current contract with Liverpool concludes at the end of June.
Liverpool confirmed on Sunday that Konate will depart the club when his deal expires. Although the center-half had previously engaged in discussions regarding a contract extension, those talks collapsed due to a disagreement between the player and the club concerning his valuation and salary expectations.
During his time at Anfield, Konate made 183 appearances across all competitions. His trophy cabinet includes a Premier League title, an FA Cup, and two League Cups. He originally arrived from RB Leipzig in 2021 for a fee of ÂŁ35 million.
If the move is finalized, Konate will become the second Liverpool player to join Real Madrid on a free transfer in consecutive summer windows, following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure last year.
