Sabrina Carpenter gets restraining order against man who showed up at her home
Sabrina Carpenter Secures Restraining Order After Uninvited Man Intrudes at Her Residence
US pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter has obtained a temporary restraining order against a man who allegedly attempted to break into her Los Angeles home, describing a series of events as "deeply alarming." According to court documents reviewed by CBS, the BBCâs US affiliate, Carpenterâs legal team is pursuing a permanent order against William Applegate. The singer accuses Applegate of trying to force entry into her residence last month and returning on two subsequent occasions.
In a signed declaration, the 27-year-old singer stated that the harassment has left her with "significant and ongoing fear" for her safety. She described the behavior as a "pattern of stalking, trespassing, and surveillance" that has resulted in severe emotional distress.
Carpenter, whose recent singles including "Espresso," "Please Please Please," "Taste," and "Manchild" have all reached the top three on charts in the US and UK, detailed several uninvited appearances at her home in recent weeks. She alleges that Applegate attempted to break in and, when confronted by security, refused to depart, falsely claiming he knew the star and that she was expecting his visit.
One specific incident on May 23 was highlighted as particularly disturbing. Carpenter claims Applegate trespassed onto a neighborâs property before approaching her front door. He attempted to open the door, rang the bell, and refused to leave until law enforcement arrived and arrested him.
"[He] fabricated the outrageous and entirely false claim that he personally knew me and that I was expecting him. This was a complete lie," Carpenter wrote in her statement.
The singer noted that Applegate returned less than 24 hours later, loitering outside her residence for hours. He allegedly came back again the following day, parking outside her home. Carpenter characterized the attempt to enter her house as "among the most disturbing violations of personal safety and privacy I have ever experienced."
Supporting her petition, Carpenter submitted footage from her doorbell camera. She requested protection for herself, as well as her sister and her sisterâs boyfriend, who also reside at the property. On Friday, a judge granted the temporary restraining order, mandating that Applegate maintain a distance of at least 100 yards from Carpenter, her home, her vehicle, her workplace, and the other residents.
A subsequent court hearing is scheduled for June 17. Applegate is also set to appear in criminal court the following day regarding his arrest for criminal trespassing.
In a declaration filed alongside the petition, Los Angeles Police Department Detective Peter Doomanis expressed concern over the man's behavior. Doomanis wrote that he believes Applegate has "developed a disturbing and irrational fixation on petitioner."
"The pattern of his conduct, which may have begun as early as approximately 20 April 2026, reflects the hallmarks of a fixated, obsessional individual," Doomanis stated. He added that this trajectory aligns with "well-documented patterns of stalking behaviour that pose a serious and escalating risk [to] victim safety."
