Caudery and Hunter Bell win at Rome Diamond League
Caudery and Hunter Bell Claim Victories at Rome Diamond League
World indoor champions Molly Caudery and Georgia Hunter Bell secured top honors at the Diamond League event in Rome, dominating their respective events. Hunter Bell, fresh off her maiden world title victory in Torun earlier this March, distinguished herself in the 1500m by breaking away from the main group to finish with a time of 3:58.63 at the Stadio Olimpico. Meanwhile, two-time world indoor champion Caudery cemented her pole vault victory by clearing a height of 4.80m.
The meet featured significant British representation, though results varied. Keely Hodgkinson, who also claimed indoor success in Poland, competed in the 400m—a distance she rarely tackles. The 24-year-old struggled to make an impact in the unfamiliar race, crossing the line in seventh place with a time of 51.14 seconds. Her teammate, Amber Anning, secured fifth place in 50.19.
In the women’s 200m, Amy Hunt and Dina Asher-Smith placed fourth and fifth, recording times of 22.52 and 22.76 seconds, respectively. The race was ultimately won by Olympic champion Julien Alfred, who defeated world title-holder Melissa Jefferson-Wooden.
On the men’s side, Olympic champion Noah Lyles asserted his dominance in the 100m sprint, clocking 9.88 seconds to take the win. He finished ahead of Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme and Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo. Great Britain’s Jeremiah Azu completed the race in ninth place with a time of 10.12 seconds.
The Diamond League circuit continues on Sunday in Stockholm. Live broadcasts will be available on BBC Two, as well as the BBC Sport website and app, beginning at 16:00 BST.
