Jeremy Hansen, astronaut: Moon mission shows best of humanity

Available for over a year

ā€œI hope humanity will stop for a moment when four humans are on the far side of the moon and be reminded that we can do a better job as humans of just lifting each other up. Not destroying, but creating together.ā€

In this episode, Rebecca Morelle and Tim Peake sit down with Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen in anticipation of the Artemis II launch. Hansen serves as one of the four crew members assigned to NASA’s latest space expedition. The Artemis II mission, launching from Florida’s Kennedy Space Centre, is scheduled to travel to the Moon, orbit the satellite, and then return to Earth.

While the crew will not touch down on the lunar surface, this marks the first human journey to the Moon in more than fifty years. A successful mission would achieve several historic milestones: Hansen will become the first non-American to depart low-Earth orbit, while his crewmate Christina Koch will be the first woman to do so, and Victor Glover will be the first person of colour to achieve this feat.
