Dunlop wins Supersport race to extend TT record
Title: Dunlop Claims Supersport Victory, Adding to His Record TT Count
Michael Dunlop secured a decisive victory in the opening Supersport race of the Isle of Man TT, finishing ahead of Dean Harrison. This triumph marks Dunlop’s first win of the current event and increases his all-time record for road race victories to 34.
The competition was fierce from the start, with Dunlop and Harrison, the dominant force in Sunday’s Superbike race for Honda, running nose-to-nose on the initial lap. However, the Ducati rider from Scars quickly created a gap, pulling away during the second of the three-lap contest. Dunlop ultimately crossed the line with a commanding lead of 24.470 seconds, securing his ninth consecutive Supersport class win.
Peter Hickman rounded out the podium, finishing third after overtaking Paul Jordan, Josh Brookes, and Dominic Herbertson for the final spot.
Dunlop, who recently made history by becoming the first rider to win on a Ducati in three decades—completing a Supersport double in 2025—continued his strong form from practice week, where he was the fastest rider. Despite Harrison applying intense pressure on the opening lap, limiting Dunlop’s advantage to just one-tenth of a second at the end of the first 37.73-mile circuit of closed public roads, the Northern Irishman seized control. Mirroring his performance in practice, Dunlop unleashed a blistering second lap, extending his lead to 12 seconds over the Honda rider and never looking back.
Harrison finished in second place, while Hickman, who also delivered a powerful second lap, held off Jordan and Herbertson to take third.
Dunlop is now considered the favorite to claim his second win of the week in the rescheduled Sportbike race, set to start at 18:30 BST. Meanwhile, the Superstock race, which had been postponed due to weather issues on Saturday, will not take place on Tuesday evening as the wet conditions continue to disrupt the schedule.
