Porn company fined £600,000 by Ofcom over age check failings

Porn company fined £600,000 by Ofcom over age check failings

Title: Ofcom Imposes £600,000 Penalty on Adult Site Operator for Inadequate Age Verification

Media regulator Ofcom has issued a £600,000 fine to Youngtek Solutions Ltd, the operator of four adult websites, citing significant failures in implementing mandatory age verification protocols. The regulator confirmed that the company lacked the necessary checks to verify that UK visitors were over the age of 18, thereby allowing children potential access to restricted content.

While Youngtek Solutions has since implemented verification systems, Ofcom noted that the firm was in breach of regulations between July and September 2025. The penalty comprises a £500,000 sanction for the absence of age checks and an additional £100,000 for failing to promptly respond to initial information requests from the regulator.

Under the UK’s Online Safety Act (OSA), which came into effect in July 2025, platforms hosting pornography in the UK are legally required to maintain "highly effective" age verification measures to shield minors from age-restricted or harmful material. The OSA grants Ofcom the authority to impose fines of up to £18 million or 10% of a company’s global turnover, whichever is higher. In severe instances, the regulator can also seek court orders to block sites within the UK.

George Lusty, Ofcom’s director of enforcement, emphasized the seriousness of these obligations. "Adult sites must use robust age checks to protect children in the UK from porn online, and we've shown we will use the full extent of our enforcement powers to secure this outcome," Lusty stated. "Any company that fails to comply - or misses important deadlines when we demand information - can expect to pay the price."

This penalty follows a series of significant enforcement actions by Ofcom against other adult websites for similar infractions. Recent major fines include:

  • AVS Group Ltd: Penalized £1 million in December 2025.
  • Kick Online Entertainment SA: Fined £800,000 in February for failing to introduce proper age verification between July and December 2025.
  • 8579 LLC: Hit with Ofcom’s largest fine under the OSA to date, amounting to £1.35 million in February 2026.

Ofcom reported that both AVS Group and Kick Online Entertainment SA have since deployed age checks on certain of their platforms. However, the regulator did not disclose whether any of the fined entities have settled their outstanding penalties.

According to Ofcom’s latest data, two-thirds of the top 100 pornography services operating in the UK have now implemented age verification systems as of April.
