Evaluation of Baseline Methods for IDD-based SSD External Memory Search
Title: Assessing Baseline Techniques for SSD-Based External Memory Search Using Immediate Duplicate Detection
Abstract: Certain complex search challenges exceed the capabilities of algorithms like A when restricted to RAM. While prior research has introduced search strategies leveraging external storage devices, such as SSDs and HDDs, which offer significantly greater capacity than main memory, the focus has largely remained on delayed duplicate detection and intricate immediate duplicate detection (IDD) schemes. Consequently, straightforward IDD methods have lacked systematic examination. Furthermore, the influence of operating system-level mechanisms designed to manage and accelerate access to external memory, including page caches, has not been adequately investigated. This study fills these research voids by conducting a performance evaluation and analysis of simple baseline approaches for A search that utilize immediate duplicate detection.
