Title: Establishing a Rigorous Definition and Meta-Model for Machine Theory of Mind

Abstract: This study introduces the first precise formal definition of Machine Theory of Mind, grounded in principles validated by research in artificial intelligence, neuroscience, and cognitive psychology. By applying this framework as an analytical lens, the paper evaluates current state-of-the-art initiatives and identifies a prospective research agenda capable of resolving the underlying challenges. Additionally, the work presents a comprehensive holistic meta-model for Machine Theory of Mind and assesses the existing landscape regarding the empirical benchmarking of such models.
