CREward: A Type-Specific Creativity Reward Model
Title: CREward: A Type-Specific Creativity Reward Model
Abstract: Conceptualizing creativity as a monolithic, undifferentiated metric is both simplistic and inadequate given the complexity of the phenomenon. This study introduces CREward, the pioneering type-specific creativity reward model. By addressing three distinct "axes" of creativity—geometry, material, and texture—CREward facilitates an analysis of creativity through the perspective of the image formation pipeline. To establish this model, we initially performed a human benchmark evaluation to gauge human perception of creativity across various image types. Subsequently, we examined the correlation between these human judgments and the outputs of large vision-language models (LVLMs), finding that LVLMs demonstrate a robust alignment with human creative perception. Leveraging this insight, we utilized labels generated by LVLMs to train CREward, creating a tool suitable for both evaluating and generating creative imagery. We further investigate three practical applications of CREward: assessing creativity, providing explanations for creative choices, and acquiring creative samples to inspire human designers or guide creative generation via low-rank adaptation.
