“I will sleep with fear”: Romanians shaken after block of flats hit by drone

The BBC visited a residential building in Galați, a Romanian city in the east near the Ukrainian border, following an incident on Friday in which the structure was struck by what Bucharest described as a Russian drone. The attack left two individuals injured, leaving residents deeply unsettled.

One resident told BBC Eastern Europe correspondent Sarah Rainsford that the trauma of the event would linger. “If I go back to my flat tonight, I will sleep with fear,” he said.

Regarding the origin of the drone, Romanian President Nicușor Dan suggested it had likely been intercepted by Ukrainian air defenses over Kyiv’s territory, which caused it to deviate from its original path. However, Moscow has cast doubt on the claim that the device was Russian.
