Nine Pupils Hospitalized Following Ingestion of School Ground Seeds
Nine students were transported to the hospital after consuming seeds found on the grounds of a primary school in Nottinghamshire. The East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) received a call regarding an incident at Jesse Gray Primary School in West Bridgford at 13:26 BST on Wednesday.
According to the county council, a group of Year 6 students had eaten seeds from trees located within the school premises. As a safety precaution, nine Year 6 pupils were transferred to the Queen's Medical Centre. They remained under observation for several hours but were subsequently discharged and resumed classes on Thursday.
EMAS deployed a significant response, including paramedics in ambulance cars, crewed ambulances, and its Hazardous Area Response Team. An air ambulance responder was also present at the scene.
Following a professional inspection by the schoolâs ground maintenance team, a county council spokesperson announced that a small number of trees would be removed. The area where the children were playing has been cordoned off. Additionally, the spokesperson noted that the morning school assembly was used to reinforce safety protocols, specifically highlighting the risks associated with consuming berries or seeds from trees and shrubs.
