Gordon to be oldest player at World Cup but Gunn handed No 1

Craig Gordon Set to Be World Cup’s Veteran as Gunn Claims No. 1 Shirt

Scotland’s 43-year-old goalkeeper Craig Gordon is poised to become the oldest participant at this summer’s World Cup, yet he will not be donning the team’s primary jersey number. After the submission of official squad rosters by all 48 competing nations, Gordon has been assigned the number 21 shirt. The No. 1 role has instead gone to Angus Gunn, while Liam Kelly has been given number 12.

In other significant squad adjustments, Manchester United’s Tyler Fletcher, who stepped in as a surprise substitute for the injured Billy Gilmour on Sunday, has taken the number 8 shirt as a midfielder. The attacking options have been allocated specific numbers as well: striker Lyndon Dykes will wear No. 9, Che Adams will take No. 10, and Lawrence Shankland has been assigned No. 20.

While these numerical assignments may offer subtle clues regarding head coach Steve Clarke’s preferred starting lineup, the data is not definitive. For instance, centre-back Grant Hanley has been given the number 5 shirt.

The Scottish team has already arrived in the United States and is preparing for their final World Cup preparatory match against Bolivia. That fixture, which will be broadcast live on the BBC, takes place on Saturday at 21:00 BST. Scotland’s tournament campaign begins the following weekend with a clash against Haiti in Boston on Sunday, 14 June, at 02:00, followed by matches against Morocco and Brazil.
